The Bristow Experience
I have now had the privilege of working with Andy on a few occasions and can assuredly vouch for the quality of his images and his standard of professionalism. Andy is the official portfolio photographer for the Miss England North West heats and creates a portfolio for the lucky winner.
The Haunted Head
The morning of my portfolio shoot, I was joined by my little sister Giorgia Frost and both of our parents. My Mum (and Bolton Council) had kindly allowed us to use Smithills Hall – which is a very old eerie like building. It was a glorious day; sun pouring in through the stained glass windows. My Mum did get a bit over-zealous on her tour of the grounds, being a very keen historian. We first set up in the bedroom – which according to mother dearest was “haunted”. Made slightly spookier by Andy’s test shot dummy head– named Emily by some of the other girls.
I had found a nightgown rummaging through the hall’s dressing up gear and opted to wear that. I am so glad I did! There was a window behind where I was sat; dress sprawled in a circle surrounding me. Andy had asked Giorgia to spray deodorant near the window at the same time as he was shooting and the effect was just brilliant! I was totally impressed by his ingenuity.
Other stops on our rounds of the building were the white drawing room, the library, which was as grand and regal as you would imagine in a palace. Then it was off into the sun to get some outdoor shots. The qualities of the images have been exceptionally well received and have been a brilliant addition to my portfolio. Having done quite a few photoshoots over the years, Andy’s images add a sophisticated elegance that my portfolio was previously lacking.
I had quite recently been asked to do a photoshoot for a local clothing shop in Bolton. Upon my arrival, to my delight Andy was the photographer! I instantly felt relaxed and comfortable.
We were to shoot in the market vaults in the Bolton Market Place which are soon to be turned into restaurants and bars. It looks pretty cool – I compare it to the ministry of magic for any fellow Harry Potter fiends. This shoot was hilarious for various reasons – even though we were very pushed for time, the final images were beautiful and again a very welcome addition to my portfolio.
Strike a pose – pull a face!
We ended the shoot pulling daft faces together – or at different times so the other looked more ridiculous. It was rewarding to get to know Andy on a personal level and I feel even more comfortable for future events where our paths will no doubt collide.
All in all – an experience that I am thoroughly appreciative of and images that will stand the test of time in my portfolio.
